Jeff Hammer

Jeff Hammer is a Managing Director in the Private Funds Advisory group at Moelis & Company. He has over 25 years of experience advising sponsors, institutional investors and other financial services firms in the secondary market, having co-founded three secondary units over the course of his career. He has advised on more than 60 complex liquidity solutions representing over $14 billion in transaction value, which includes GP-led continuation vehicles (CVs), asset sales, strip sales, fund recapitalizations, tender offers, and LP interests among others. Jeff has also invested over $1 billion in the secondary market as a principal investor and managed over $3 billion in primary, secondary, and co-investment private equity strategies.

Prior to Moelis & Company, Jeff was a Senior Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Secondaries at Manulife Investment Management, where he co-led a team focused on investing balance sheet and third-party capital into GP-led secondary market CVs. Over five years at Manulife, Jeff reviewed over 900 CV investments from over 800 sponsors. Jeff was previously Co-Head of Houlihan Lokey’s Illiquid Financial Assets practice, one of the earliest and most innovative secondary advisory banking businesses, where he pioneered the use of CVs in GP-led secondary transactions to create liquidity for sponsors, LPs, and management teams. Prior to Houlihan, Jeff was a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Bear Stearns Asset Management’s secondary investing unit. Earlier in his career, Jeff held investment banking positions at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

Jeff is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, an Elected Member of the Westport Board of Finance, a Trustee of the Westport Pension Investment Committee, and a Director of the non-profit theater company 59E59. He received a A.B. in Politics from Princeton University, and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
