Dr. Lena Mass-Cresnik is the Chief Data Officer and a Managing Director at Moelis & Company where she oversees the Firm’s Data Science and Analytics business within Investment Banking. Lena has 20 years of experience creating innovative, cross-functional financial and technology solutions — covering GAI/AI/ML, data science & analytics, FinTech, digital transformations, investment products, cloud, mobility, automation, R&D including patent pending, and VC engagement among others — across the financial services ecosystem.
Previously, Lena was the Head of Technology Strategy and Technology Research & Development in the Office of the CTO at Charles Schwab. She also oversaw new Developer recruitment and training. Prior to that, Lena was the Global Head of Innovation in Technology and Head of Innovation in Strategic Investment Product Management at BlackRock, where she focused on institutional and retail investment products, technologies, and services. There she developed investment products and established a new technology engagement strategy & model focused on emergent technologies, start-ups, products and services, and evaluated their feasibility and commercial viability globally.
Dr. Lena Mass-Cresnik holds a D.Phil./Ph.D. from the University of Oxford, where she focused on complex systems. She also holds an M.S. in Policy & Management from Harvard University, including work at Harvard Business School and MIT, and a B.A. in Economics from Wellesley College.
Lena is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Technology, Innovation, and Systemic Risk in Financial Services Steering Committee. She is also an Advisory Board Member at Atlas Crest Investment Co., Member of the AWS Executive Advisory Council of New York, and Executive Mentor at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Lena was also recently an inaugural member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s FinTech Advisory Group.
